If you are feeling low in mood, angry, helpless, stressed, confused and want to change this you may be wondering what to do. Psychotherapy is a good place to start. There is much research that has found psychotherapy can be helpful for people, enabling them to change their ways of thinking, behaving and therefore how they feel. If you have never engaged in therapy or spoken to a counsellor you may be wondering what to do and what to expect from therapy. I am a qualified Counselling Psychologist and I work in the NHS and hold a private therapy clinic in South Wimbledon, within easy reach from Wimbledon and Colliers Wood. I generally use the first session to see whether I may be able to help you with your difficulty, and it gives you the chance to see whether they would like to work with me. If I am not the best person to help, then I will make suggestions on where you may be able to access the appropriate help. The type of therapy I offer varies, depending on what the person wants to work on.
I offer Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), which is a practical short-term therapy aimed at improving the way one feels by changing thinking patterns and behaviours. CBT is a structured type of therapy, where you will learn techniques to modify your thinking and actions to reduce distress and feel better. Some reading and writing in between each session is required for this therapy, for example keeping diaries of thoughts, emotions and behaviours. An abundance of research has shown CBT to be a very effective treatment especially for anxiety disorders, including: panic, social anxiety, OCD, health anxiety and specific phobias.
I also offer longer- term attachment- based psychodynamic psychotherapy, which explores how past relationships and experiences may have influenced the ways one relates in the present to one self and others. This type of therapy is more explorative and lasts longer, as it usually requires more time to speak about these deeper issues. Attachment-based psychodynamic psychotherapy is generally aimed at exploring relationship difficulties, low self-esteem, depression and childhood trauma.
My clinic is located in South West London in South Wimbledon, close to Wimbledon and Colliers Wood.
I do not charge for an initial telephone consultation. I also provide counselling in Italian, as I am fluent in the language.
