Counselling and Psychotherapy in South West London- South Wimbledon
“The thing that is really hard and really amazing is giving up on being perfect and beginning the work of becoming yourself" (Anna Quindlen)
Life can be challenging at times and one may find it a struggle to cope with difficult emotions. As a way to manage painful feelings one can become withdrawn or may engage in unhelpful behaviours which can disrupt one's life in many ways.
Because it's hard to reach out and seek help from a counsellor/therapist due to stigma, confusion and shame, one can go on many years living a life struggling and not knowing how to stop the cycle of depression and anxiety. Seeing a counsellor can help to talk about painful events and emotions and to improve self-reflection and self-awareness. Therapy can also help a person to explore and process events that may have occured many years ago and are still impacting their life at present.
There is a significant amount of research that has found talking therapy to enable individuals to change their unhelpful ways of thinking and behaving so to start feeling better able to cope with life. If you have never engaged in therapy or spoken to a counsellor you may be wondering what to do and what to expect from therapy. You may find some of the answers to your questions on the FAQ page.
