Counselling and Psychotherapy in South West London- South Wimbledon
“The thing that is really hard and really amazing is giving up on being perfect and beginning the work of becoming yourself" (Anna Quindlen)
Life can be challenging and at times one may find it a struggle to cope with difficult events and emotions. As a way to manage painful feelings one may become withdrawn or engage in unhelpful behaviours which can disrupt one's life further in many ways. Anxiety, depression, sleeplessness, panic, irritability and excessive worry are some of the symptoms that can arise when one feels stressed and helpless.
It can be difficult to seek therapy and to contact a counsellor or a psychotherapist, so one can go on struggling and not knowing how to stop the cycle of depression and anxiety. Counselling enables the person to process difficult and painful emotions and to improve self-reflection, self-awareness and self- confidence. Counselling can be helpful not only for current difficulties, but also for exploring and processing events that may have occured many years ago and are still impacting the present.
A significant amount of research has found that talking therapy can enable individuals to change their unhelpful ways of thinking and behaving and therefore reduce symptoms of anxiety and depression. If you have never engaged in therapy or spoken to a counsellor you may be wondering what to do and what to expect from therapy. You may find some of the answers to your questions on the FAQ page.
