Counselling and Psychotherapy in South West London- Wimbledon

β€œIt all depends on how we look at things, and not how they are in themselves.” (C.G. Jung)

At times in life one can find it a struggle to cope with situations that can seem simple and to manage strong emotions such as anger, helplessness, anxiety and worry. As a way to not feel these painful feelings a person may turn to food, alcohol, drugs, violence, sex or gambling. Overtime this can also start to impact our health negatively; like weight, sleep, digestive system, liver, memory etc. Seeing a counsellor can help to talk about painful events and emotions, if you want to improve self-reflection and self-awareness, or perhaps deal with things that you feel are holding you back which you have not resolved.

There is a significant amount of research that has found talking therapy to enable individuals to change their unhelpful ways of thinking, behaving and therefore feeling better able to cope with things in life. This in turn will make it more likely that a person also cares for themselves better- not just mentally but also physically. If you have never engaged in therapy or spoken to a counsellor you may be wondering what to do and what to expect from therapy. You may find some of the answers to your questions on the FAQ page.

I am a qualified Counselling Psychologist and I work in the NHS and hold a private therapy clinic in London- South Wimbledon, within easy reach from Wimbledon central and Colliers Wood. As a psychologist I have been trained in several therapeutic modalities, which can be used to treat different difficulties. I generally use the first meeting to see whether I may be able to help you with your difficulty, and it gives you the chance to see whether they would like to work with me. If I am not the best person to help, then I will make suggestions on where you may be able to access the appropriate help. If you have any questions or would like more information on how I may be able to help you, or to arrange an initial appointment you can call/text me on 07931229137 or by email email me here

The type of therapy I offer is Cognitive Behaviour Therapy and Attachment-Based Psychodynamic Therapy

I offer Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), which is a practical short-term therapy aimed at improving the way one feels by changing thinking patterns and behaviours. CBT is a structured type of therapy, where you will learn techniques to modify your thinking and behaviour to feel better and less distressed. Some reading and writing in between each session is required for this therapy, for example keeping diaries of thoughts, emotions and events. An abundance of research has shown CBT to be a very effective treatment especially for anxiety disorders, including: panic, worry, social anxiety, health anxiety, OCD, and specific phobias.

I also offer longer- term Attachment- Based Psychodynamic Psychotherapy, which explores how past relationships and experiences may influence the ways one relates in the present to one self and to others. This type of therapy is more explorative and lasts longer, as it usually requires more time to speak about these deeper issues. Attachment-based psychodynamic psychotherapy is generally aimed at exploring relationship difficulties, low self-esteem, depression and childhood trauma.
